Anita’s motivation to start her own organization came when she realised that the cause of ‘single women’ was inadequately addressed by existing interventions. She had a vision to ensure that all village practices are organised on the principle of dignity and inclusivity, which meant that ostracised groups such as widows, divorcees, and abandoned women must be respected and embraced by the society.
Ankur Swayamsevak Sansthan was established on 19 September 2005 with the support of marginalised youth who were ready to fight any kind of exploitation through rigorous social work.The name Ankur means a new bud emerging after the hard-work of sowing a seed in the soil, and it was chosen to signify the emergence of a new, independent movement that will only grow in the future.”
Single Women Empowerment Program- Fostering leadership and community support for single women by establishing local groups, providing livelihood training to women, and enabling access to government schemes.
Kiln Workers and Children Empowerment Program- Addressing economic and educational challenges of one of the most marginalised communities in Ankur’s area of work through local surveys, community discussions, and collaborative meetings with kiln owners.
Vishwa Samvad Kendra- Establishing a dedicated counseling center, to support women by offering emotional guidance and legal assistance.
